CampusBuds Privacy Notice

What we collect

• Account email, authentication identifiers and sign-in information.
• Profile details you choose to save (display name, school, city, country, interests and preferences). Do not enter a home address.
• Only if you opt into discovery: display name, general city/country and interests in the discoverable member directory.
• Friend requests and their status, block relationships, reports, and private messages sent to confirmed friends.
• Local device content — AI-character conversation history, demo lounge posts, saved plans, student tasks and scores — kept in your browser.
• When you use live AI chat while signed in, your recent messages with that character are sent to an AI service to generate replies. They are not used to identify you publicly.
• Technical usage and network information processed by hosting and database providers to operate and protect the service.

Who can see information

Signed-in members may see opt-in directory information. Confirmed friends can exchange private messages. Authorized administrators may need access for security, abuse handling, troubleshooting or legal duties. Reports are never shown to other members. Blocking restricts discovery and contact, but no system can guarantee a person cannot learn public information elsewhere.

What is real and what is AI

Accounts, saved profiles, friend relationships and private messages are real. Emily and the six AI practice buddies (Maya, Leo, Sam, Nia, Jo and Kai) are clearly labeled AI characters. Signed-in members chat with live AI; guests receive scripted demo replies. AI characters are never represented as real people and never appear in the member directory. Bot games and the Global Lounge are local demos, not a public feed.

Storage, retention and deletion

Account data and messages are kept until deleted under an applicable retention process. Browser-only data can be deleted by clearing site storage, though this does not delete account data. Account deletion is not yet automated: signed-in members can submit a deletion request below, and the operator must review it, carry out deletion and confirm completion.

Safety, age and security

CampusBuds is for adults 18+. Sign-up asks for an age declaration but does not independently verify identity or age. Please do not share sensitive health, payment or identity information in chats. Blocking and reporting help but do not replace human moderation.

• Opt into or out of the discoverable directory on the Friends page.
• Block/unblock people and report abuse.
• Export your on-device data from My Profile.
• Reset your password from the sign-in window.
• Request account and data deletion below. Requests are not instant deletion.

Updates and contact

Before public launch, the operator must publish an accessible contact method, finalized retention windows and request procedures. No privacy-contact address has been supplied yet, so none is listed here.
